On this day of remembrance, I invite you to join your hearts and voices with the millions of others around the world praying for peace and an end to violence. I encourage you not to spend all day watching the same images of hurt, devastation and pain over and over again, but instead to seek out an example of goodness, kindness, compassion and caring as a way of combating the darkness. Remember, we are Easter people! The tomb is empty! God’s love for us is stronger than death. May God’s presence be with you and grant you comfort, strength and peace.
Peace and hope,
Pastor John
God of hope and help, we pray for those who were injured and traumatized by the bombing in Boston yesterday. We pray for those who have lost loved ones in any of the countless tragedies that occur in our communities and around the world each day. We pray for those living with the scars of violence and for those living in fear of what may be in the future. Grant wisdom to all leaders that they may look for ways to bring about peace. Grant safety to those giving of their lives to protect others. Grant healing to the injured and strength to those using their gifts to bring healing. Grant comfort to the grieving that they might know your presence in their time of need. Help us to know that although the effects of evil can be devastating, your compassion and love are ultimately far more powerful. Wrap us always in your loving arms, O God and give us peace. Amen.
